This book is the best thing I have read since I got cancer. It is to the point, concrete, no rambling whatsoever. It is raw and touches on the most personal and seemingly embarrassing moments of one's life. I am a huge skeptic when it comes to self help books, meditation, and forget about religion. I went through several counselors to deal with my own cancer demons and was left disgusted by their inability to help. This book helped. And it helped at a time when I was waiting for my biannual checkups and scans. The book's power comes from between the lines as much as the text itself. I am holding on to it as I wait for my test results and my heart is beating much calmer than ever before. Thank you, Katie, for writing this.Product details

The Courage Club A Radical Guide for Audaciously Living Beyond Cancer edition by Katie A Campbell Health Fitness Dieting eBooks Reviews
Wow, I can't say enough about this book. By sharing her journey with the world, Katie has crafted an astounding book of inspiration and courage that can speak to all humans, not just those that have faced a serious illness. I can't recommend this book enough to everyone, young or old, healthy or healing, this will change your life no matter what!
Don't have breast cancer, but recommend the book for those who do in winning the battle and for those who don't in appreciating everyday to the fullest. Met Katie's brother earlier this year at a restaurant in Macy's; commented on lunch; her brother in the food industry started talking and disclosed his sister had stage 4 breast cancer. He needed to talk about Katie to complete stranger as a great brother. I spend as much time as I could in volunteering and am a board member for another cancer organization so I understood and also lost family members to cancer. Immediately was saddened to hear of another woman with breast cancer despite not knowing her. I read her book and thought Katie was an amazingly courageous woman who wrote with heart and soul. Very sorry to learn she died. The book will make one think of others who may be battling a vicious disease. It's that time of year, let's remember those who are in need. Let's remember Katie as a brave woman, who tragically died from a disease that needs to be eradicated.
This book is at times so heartwrenching, so revealing, to read it almost feels intrusive.
Katie confesses how it felt to find out her lifelong hopes of motherhood had been dashed and how difficult it was to be repeatedly reminded of this everywhere she went. She writes of an emotional breakdown bringing her marriage to the brink of collapse. She writes of very seriously considering suicide.
Not all of Katie's revelations are sad ones though. I smiled when she confesses her favorite food and I was filled with joy to read of her travels, particularly her time walking beside Gorillas in the wild. Katie's narrative is solemn when necessary but she infuses plenty of levity through sarcasm and by poking fun at herself. This book will not bring you down. It will do quite the opposite actually. Ever time Katie divulges a painful setback and all of the devastation and trauma it caused, she carefully describes to you the knowledge she sought and the techniques she developed to cope with it and eventually move beyond it. Each chapter is dedicated to one of several rules Katie created for inclusion into a much happier and more meaningful state of living which she called, "The Courage Club".
The answers Katie found for herself may not be for you but surely you will find inspiration in her perseverence and in the numerous mental and physical exercises, philosophies and activities she embraced to preserve her life, her marriage and to enhance her relationship with herself, her loved ones and the world around her.
The final act of Katie's life is one of a young lady fighting for and finding, gradually, a way of life in which entitlement, jealousy, insecurity, anger, disappointment and hopelessness give way to determination, an impervious sense of duty and a joy for all that this life offers us.
In short, she found a way to love life, unconditionally.
Katie, being the beautiful selfless person that she was, decided to share what she had found. She couldn't keep it all for herself. It's all here for you in this book. Please take it.
I read this book in a marathon session and I felt fed. I ended my second round of chemo one week ago. I do wish I had read this in the midst of my chemo but I am grateful to have it today. Katie speaks to the often unspoken, misunderstood, and confusing reactions we experience when dealing with pain. Pain from physical AND emotional responses that a traumatic health crisis can bring. I personally felt I had a mirror held up that made me feel I was okay, she shares feelings and thoughts that reflect my own. It is a comfort to not only feel more normal, but to also understand more about myself and the "why". She has already helped me surf the fear that can feel like drowning. That is what this book is to me - a surf board, a solid surface to swim from and hopefully surf the future. Cancer may never leave my life, or it may never rerurn, either way I am alive right now and I choose to live it as a member of the courage club.
WOW. I’ve read a lot of self-help/motivational books during the past twenty years, and none has ever moved me or compelled me to action like this one. It is part memoir, but the author uses her heart-rending story to teach the reader how to really live.
I am almost embarrassed to admit that although I’m in my mid-40’s and have heard time and again admonitions to “Live in the present moment”, “Take risks”, and “Live boldly”; and although I’ve read that you’re supposed to live like today is the last day of your life; although I’ve had all those kinds of messages in my head for YEARS, it took reading this book to get the message into my HEART. And now that the message has become revelation, I am excited about living for the first time in years.
Thank you, Katie, for sharing your story. It has blessed me in ways you cannot imagine.
Now to the would-be reader if you need a kick in the pants to be grateful for the life you have been given in this present moment, or if you're struggling to find meaning in your life, download and read this book! It is not for cancer patients only!
